Heian Godan - Peaceful Mind Kata 5 - STEP BY STEP

 

1. Hachi Dachi, bow

2. Look to the left, back stance left foot forward, inside block left hand.

3. Remain in back stance, right arm hook punch.

4. Look to the Right. Draw up with right foot, feet together, right hand to chamber while simultaneously bringing left arm across the chest, leaving it out floating in front of you

5. Step out with right foot into back stance, right hand inside block.

5. Remain in back stance, left arm hook punch.

6. Look Forward. Draw up with left foot, feet together, left hand to chamber while simultaneously bringing right arm across the chest, leaving it out floating in front of you

 

7. Step out with the right foot back stance, double arm block, right hand forward, left arm reinforcing.

8. Step forward into front stance, left foot forward, x-block down with right arm over left, x-block up with open hands, turn hands palm to palm as you bring towards right chamber. Open Hand cup and saucer right side.

9. Left hand opening draw (Tate Shuto Uke), about a 2 second count.

10. Step forward thrust punch, right foot, right hand punch, KIAI!

 

11. Look back over left shoulder, turn to opposite direction, stomp with right foot into Kiba Dachi, right hand downward block.

12. Draw arms in front, left arm on top and hands in knife position, simulating a grab with the left and elbow strike with the right (but do not hit arms).  Draw (5 second count) left hand towards left foot as right moves to chamber. Extend chest out as you expand and will then contract on next step.

13. Outside crescent kick right foot  into left hand, step down, right elbow smash into same open left hand

14. Step the left foot behind the right leg, left shin should be touching right calf, double arm strike with right arm, left hand reinforces.

15. Left foot moves into cat stance, right arm punches up in the air still reinforced with left

16. Bring hands low to then prime yourself to jump high (mostly Vertical, not distance) land with legs crossed right in front of left on a 45 degree angle to your left side, x-block down (right arm over left), KIAI!

 

17. Step forward into front stance right foot forward, double arm block, right arm, left arm reinforcing.

18. Shift left leg over (back leg) as you turn hips into front stance facing opposite direction, reach in with right hand to scoop under opponent’s knee, left hand in knife position facing over right arm as if pushing to the right (blocking a punch)

19. Pull back with right arm as if to lift the opponents leg throwing them back, left arm moves into a downward block position, right arm is up and square behind head with elbow at a right angle, simultaneously shifting into Back Stance left leg forward

20. Draw in left foot until feet are together (your toes should be facing to the right). Then rotate in place so that feet are facing the opposite direction and arms switch places (Right arm is now in downward block and left hand is square behind head)

21.  With the right leg move into front stance with left hand scoop (under opponent’s knee), right hand in knife position facing over left arm as if pushing to the left (blocking a punch)

21. Pull back with left arm as if to lift the opponents leg throwing them back, right arm moves into a downward block position, left arm is up and square behind head with elbow at a right angle, simultaneously shifting into Back Stance right leg forward

22. Step over with the right, Hachi Dachi.
